Belle Vale prefab project

Posted on March 3, 2010 by sophie

The Belle Vale Prefab Project was set up to document our life and times in the Belle Vale prefabs from 1947-1970. Two books have been produced and two calendars full of wonderful pictures and memories of our special life growing up in Belle Vale. The Prefabs were created to house forces from the second World War and to meet the severe housing shortage, to provide homes for those in cramped housing conditions and those affected by the Blitz.

You are invited to the meetings of the Belle Vale Prefab Project at the Lee Valley Millennium Centre Chillwall Valley Road at 7pm of the last Thursday in the month.

Hundreds of friends have already linked into the project since it was set up five years ago, people are in contact via the internet from all over the world who lived in Belle Vale in the prefabs from 1947-1970. Dozens of old friends from the prefabs meet every month with new people attending each meeting.

So please come along or get in touch via our website Belle vale Prefab Project or email us

The 2010 calendar  and second book are available to buy at the Post Office on Belle Vale Road. The first book now out of print can be borrowed from Liverpool libraries.

Cinefilm wanted

We are looking for film footage of the 40′s 50′s and 60′s preferably of the prefabs or linked environments. We will ultimately collate all the bits of cinefilm we collect and include it within a film of photo’s and interviews of our prefab days.

  1. Tony Hall says:

I lived at number 43 Bridgefield Road with my mother Catherine and father Joseph and brother John all through the middle fifties to late sixties.
My brother has recently contacted me to find out more about the prefab days books and we spent a happy hour reminiscing which made me search out your website.

I can now let him know about the Belle Vale prefab project and we can hopefully find some forgotten photos,
Hopefully we will be in touch,
    Tony Hall
